Dating On Demand

May 28, 2008

The “on demand” phenomenon has made it easy to get what you want from your television, without ever having to leave your couch.  You can watch your favorite TV shows, movies and play random games… all by pressing buttons on your remote control.  But what if you could pick a date with the push of a button?

It’s called Dating On Demand, and it’s coming to South Florida.  Coming up tonight at 7pm, Amara Sohn will preview the first event in this service… singles recording their 15 (or 10) minutes of ‘fame’ via video personal ads.

What would your video say?

Pour Yourself A Cosmo, Watch Us At 7pm

May 27, 2008

Cosmos.  Manolos.  Jimmy Choos.

If this were a word association game… the answer would be Sex & The City.

Any fan of Carrie, Charlotte, Miranda, and Samantha will tell you… those are some of the things Sex & The City is made of  (among a bunch of other unmentionables!).  The fabulous foursome tore up the Big Apple, dished on love, sex, fashion, and friendship… and this weekend,  fans of the show will get to indulge one more time.  The movie hits the big screen on Friday and it’s expected to be the kind of movie that attracts women in droves, in groups, on special outings just for the night.  Groups of girlfriends, making plans to watch the movie at the same time.  What better way to celebrate opening night, than with the outfits that embody SATC?

Tonight Ocean Drive shows us how to have that style… just in time for the movie.

Politicians, Pets, and Popular Eats

And it begins…

Senator John McCain was in town today…. he met with Cuban American lawmakers, and took some time to sit with our own Nick Bogert.  Watch his one on one interview tonight at 7pm.  Hillary Clinton will be here tomorrow, and Barack Obama will be here beginning on Thursday.  We’ve

Also– all week we’re bringing you stories about the Foreclosure Fallout.  What happens when homeowners can’t pay their mortgage, and end up having to rent… in a place that doesn’t allow pets?  The silent victims of the foreclosure crisis.  Willard Shepard reports tonight.

And Ocean Drive has our number tonight… with a look at the very trendy, Table 8.

Fight For Florida

Decision 2008 is heating up.  It’s going to be a busy week in Florida… with both Barack Obama and Sen. John McCain visiting our state… and our very own neighborhoods.  The candidates will undoubtably talk about Cuba… and thats when South Florida gets the spotlight.  We haven’t seen Obama in the sunshine state since September… so this Fight for Florida will definitely be interesting.  Tonight, Hank Tester will take a look at the S.Florida Cuban powers that be… and the campaign.

Fitness At Your Fingertips

The fun story of the day is actually meant to help you focus on fitness.  We’ve heard a lot about the Wii… and how users were inadvertently losing weight after playing hours of Wii Tennis or Boxing.  Tomorrow, the “Wii Fit” game will be released… the difference is this game is ‘designed’ to include fitness while playing.  Consumer Reporter Joel Connable is getting a sneak preview of the game, and will have that report for us tonight.

Foreclosure Finances

Plus, how to live like a millionaire, thanks to the foreclosure crisis.  Willard Shepard will show us how some residents are capitalizing… and living the good life, for much, much less.

See ya at 7pm!

7pm Thursday Notes

May 15, 2008

From our morning editorial meeting, until now… just hours away from our broadcast… our show has changed 1,000 times.  It’s been one of those days where whatever you planned in the morning, either falls through, or turns out to not be that big of a deal.  But we’ve got a full show for you today… (as we do everyday… ha!).

The one that just makes me say “WHAT?!!?” is the report of a person being bitten by a rabid bat in Miami-Dade county.  I don’t know about you… but I’m not used to seeing those critters flying around.  They look like mice with wings to me, and the thought of a bite just makes my skin crawl.  I’ve seen them fly around in packs (flocks?  what’s the word for a group of bats?)… but in North Florida, and nowhere near Miami.  Maybe I just need to get out more often… but I feel safer inside my apartment, sans rabid animals.

Another story that’s got everyone buzzing… did Al Capone live in Miami?  Lots of rumors about safe houses he kept in SFL (there’s always a SFL Connection… always remember that)… but did he live in the Miami Beach home that went up in flames today?

And with all these natural disasters… the cyclone in Myanmar… the devastating earthquake in China… what’s up with Mother Nature?  Meteorologist Jennifer Gray will have the scientific perspective.

See you tonight at 7pm.  (well technically, it’s 6:59:05!)

Driving Smart

May 7, 2008

I first saw them in Europe years ago.  These itty bitty cars that looked like they were smushed, and called Smart cars.  I rememeber taking a photo next to one, because it seemed like a European novelty to help relieve the gas prices & parking battle.  Now they’re here… and even though they announcement of their American arrival was a while back… I’m just starting to see them on the road.  And this morning, I saw one pull up in our station parking lot.  I thought it was as part of tonight’s story… but no, it belongs to an employee.

You’ll get to see that Smart Car… and hear Joel Connable explain why some insurance companies are refusing to insure them… tonight at 7.
