The public at large, and most health care professionals, really don't understand the chronicity of the illness. As a parent of a child with diabetes, I will continue to support funding for cure-focused research until a true cure is found. The Diabetes Research Institute Foundation sponsors a wonderful pump support group in Boca Raton 1x per month for approximately 6 months out of the year. Any of your readers who are interested can call the Foundation's office and get on the mailing list. Additionally, any parents of newly diagnosed children can call the DRI Foundation and have another parent connect with them - through the PEP Squad (Parents empowering parents) as no one should feel alone with diabetes.
