I’ve never owned a coat in my life.
I’m talking about a wool blend, thick coat… the kind that keep out all the wind, dress up any outfit, and are a dime a dozen anywhere outside of the Sunshine State. I’ve lived in Miami my entire life (give or take a few years for college), and have never had to worry about “cold.” I have yet to master the art of layering, I’ve spent more Christmas Days in shorts than in snow, and I don’t know if I’ll ever stop thinking that 60 degrees is cold. I own more flip flops than close-toed shoes, more tanktops than sweaters, and more bathing suits than scarves. Years ago, I realized that I’m really a Florida girl, during one of the first times I was ever in snow– in sneakers– and I didn’t understand why my socks were soaked.
With all that said… South Florida is going to see some of the coldest temperatures in several years tonight. We’ve been talking about it for days, and tonight is the night. Coldest I’ve ever been in is about 20 degrees… in Gainesville… so we’ll see what happens tonight. Coincidentally, in preparation for a trip up north I bought my first coat during a holiday sale a few days ago… and it seems like I’ll get to use it at home.
But don’t expect me to get used to it.
