Were you a time-out child or a spanking child?
When you got in trouble as a child… how did your parents discipline you? This question was brought up because of a story we’re covering— a father facing child abuse charges for beating his child with a belt after he came home with bad grades.
It’s the kind of story that gets everyone talking… and has everyone sharing their story. In our morning editorial meeting one person said he was disciplined with a belt as a child, and he ‘turned out just fine.’ Another person brought up paddling in schools, and how her mother always signed the waiver allowing the school to use it on her (for the record, they never had to!)… and someone else thought maybe the father had gone too far if the child couldn’t sit.
Whether it was a belt, a sandal, or a hand… we shared childhood spanking stories… and asked the question, is it a generational thing? … and when is disciplining your child crossing the line?
Just as this story sparked a conversation at our editorional meeting… we’re sure it’s got everyone talking around the watercooler. We’ll bring you community reaction tonight… but in the meantime, what do you think? Take the web poll we’ve posted on our home page… and e-mail your thoughts to interactive@nbc6.net
