Compass Points To Controversy

December 7, 2007

That are certain things in South Florida that remind me of my childhood. I grew up here, but sometimes forget that until I drive by something that holds dear memories. The small plot of land in the middle of several Coral Gables streets, right across from City Hall, and near Miracle Mile… (sadly, the years haven’t improved my sense of direction!) … well that little spot holds a gigantic Santa statue every year. Jolly Ol’ Saint Nick has remained the same in every one of my photos growing up… while I was the only thing in the photograph that changed. And living in a town where it doesn’t snow, and the only signs of the holidays are store decorations and city Christmas trees… I always welcome the site of the gigantic Santa. (does he even still live there?) Tonight Jennifer Gray will be live in Coral Gables just in time for the city’s holiday celebration.

The holiday season also brings a whole slew of movie options to watch with the family. Now I’m sure you’ve seen the trailer for The Golden Compass… well so have several religious leaders who are now saying that the film is Anti-God. One South Florida parochial school even sent a letter home to parents, advising they don’t take their children to see the film. Ari Odzer will have a live report.

Plus in the wake of the Omaha Mall Massacre… what is your neighborhood mall doing to keep you safe? Willard Shepard takes a look.

And several of our NBC6 family members headed to Career Day at a school down the street from us… we’ll take you there, tonight at 7pm.

Holidays Are Here

November 19, 2007

The holidays are here. In case you haven’t been to a mall lately, or been to an airport… then you haven’t gotten the memo. The holidays have begun. Nevermind that it isn’t even December yet. Doesn’t matter anymore. Now the week of Thanksgiving is marked with the beginning of the hectic travel and holiday season. If you’ve got to get somewhere, you’re going to want to hear Consumer Reporter Joel Connable’s tips on how to make your trip as smooth as possible.

You feel that? If you’re a habitual migraine sufferer– then you do, and too often.
Researchers have found brain differences in areas that process pain and other sensory information among people who suffer from migraines. Look for this report tonight at 7pm.

Plus… we’ve got a list of the Best & Worst cities… for everything from crime to real estate.

We’ll have an update after our editorial meeting later today.
