It seems like these days we’ve become veterans of covering funerals. With several BSO Deputies, and now a Hometown Football Star… it has turned into a routine. But each time, the ‘routine’ reaches a level of poignancy that makes even the most hardened of newsroom veterans turn away from the screen. Whether it’s the montage of photos shared during the memorial service, or the emotional speeches from friends and family… it never gets any easier. While the logistics of covering a funeral get easier with each passing one, witnessing a family and community’s pain will never be routine. And just think about all the funerals we *don’t* cover in this community… and all the people that get laid to rest without the hoopla and media coverage.
Today is Sean Taylor’s Funeral… hundreds… thousands… are expected at the FIU Arena to say goodbye. Watching grown men cower and break down in tears is something that I’m not looking forward to covering.
